"The most embarrassing thing with my diabetes is when I was in preschool everyone kept asking me, "What is that?". I was about four. I was really embarrassed, but my parents came in and talked about type one diabetes. Kids probably didn't understand, but they stopped asking." Best Piece of advice from Cenzo's parents: Diabetes is a very manageable disease. Can my child eat whatever he wants? Yes. Is it hard? Yes. Can my child have REAL sugar? Yes. Is it frustrating? Yes. Are there sleepless nights? Yes. But would I change it? No. (a cure-yes.) Cenz is a child first and a child with diabetes second. He is active with Junior Lifeguards (since he was nine), water polo (since he was 11), he has participated in football, soccer, self defense, camping, traveling and so many other things.
We have met amazing people along the way and we would not have been able to do some of the things without diabetes in our lives. I am not sure if that makes me happy or sad, but I do know that our son is healthy.
