Age: 11 Year Diagnosed: 2013 Location: San Juan Island, Wa

“Once I went really low when I was on the pier on the harbor. I remember leaning over then all of the sudden I was underwater and when I came up for air, a jerk kid yelled ‘SHARK!’ and I screamed ‘MAMA!’ and then she screamed ‘Did your Dexcom get wet?!?!’.

I recently came back from summer camp that was not for kids with diabetes. It went really well mostly but I did over bolus because I wasn’t listening to my counselor. I should have. She also saved me.

If you feel like you are going low, like your head starts sending weird signals to the rest of your body and you can’t test just eat some sugar, trust your gut, if you weren’t actually low and just possessed then you can bolus afterwards.”

FROM HENRY’S MOTHER: “This diagnoses is a real piece of work. You a thrown into a world you never wanted, put up with so much negative judgement, needles, anxiety, fear and a lot of what ifs. It honestly does get easier, you find your people what lift you up and you’ll be so proud of your kid in ways you never thought you’d be.”
