“I was diagnosed about 2 years ago, when I was 25. I was very upset and obsessed about every emergency situation possible. I sat my close coworkers down and explained how to administer a glucagon in case I passed out at work. I had heard that the best place to administer glucagon was on someone’s butt, which is what I very seriously told them. Everyone burst out laughing and we now have a running joke that if I’m feeling low, they’re ready to “go for the butt!” Laughter is extremely important to me and I’m so thankful to have people in my life who can create these moments!

My piece of advice is that diabetes will be new for you and everyone close to you. You’ll find support in those that accept you as you whip out a needle at the dinner table.”
