Best piece of advice from Owen's mother: I would assure parents of newly diagnosed children that it will get easier. The first eight months were the hardest for me. But I gained more confidence every day and soon I was able to look at a dinner plate and accurately guess the carbs and make small dosage changes that seemed to work. In a sense managing diabetes gets easier, but really, I think parents just get better at it all.
